back in NJ

everytime i take the lirr back from lisas i see one thing that stands out. the last few times its been the same thing. in queens there are so many apartment so close together. everyones houses back up to each other and evrything is fenced. each time the train stops in the same spot. surrounded on all sides is a taxi cab in the middle of a lawn! how the hell do you get a taxi in a courtyard thats surrounded by apartments. if i spend enough time ill figure it out. im in NJ now. scheduled 6:51 arrivial in stirling. im gonna catch a little bite to eat with my parents... then off to the gym. lisa played well today and it was fun to see friends from school. pats hair is crazy.

CW post

sitting at lisas kitchen table watching the today show. headed to CW post to watch the sisters battle for division 1 vs division 2 pride. pat will be showing up, and so will j. Im looking at a crock pot full of meatballs now, so i know the post game feast will be great. Just a few days till the cross race at palmer, anyone who participated this past saturday--what was the field size? did the promoter end up doubling the prize list? prereg looked good! look foward to a race report then. lots of packing inbetween. will post later, definetly a review on pats new haircut. ahhaha hes shot.

on my way to LI

havent posted on my blog in awhile despite repeating over and over to myself that during my return to riding a bike i would keep up with posts. i havent kept up with posts but i definetly have ridden my bike. i feel so much better. i have dropped almost 17 pounds this summer just riding and eating healthy. ive completed three racing days. one crit and one weekend of cross. my legs feel good however i always know that there is more training i can do. the start of the NYCROSS series is getting closer, however i will not be attending the first race. that weekend i will be in NC celebrating lisas cousins wedding. the next weekend is vermont UCI weekend and i will race there. that is all far away however. in less that a week i will be on my way to palmer mass for some cross racing, then cape cod, then albany NY! moving into cushing and cooking! i am really looking foward to this school year.. a new, more interesting and lively major, and lots of material for discussion. i was gonna end saying i will post more now that i have this app but who knows... somehow when i checked my statcounter i had MAD views on my blogger. thanks everybody.

5.6.09

more than a year without the blog... eeek. Also more than a year without some steady training in my life. Lots has happened since I last posted. I am back on the bike and no longer dealing with injury. I am also back and riding. no training program yet, but im thinking of breaking out the old plans so I atleast have something to guide me. Otherwise, im still working at High Gear and im trying to catch up with all the new bikes and technology. I look foward to maybe posting more on here...

9.4.08

Strike that last post, things arent quite gonn work out. I do however have something else in the works. You will see relativly soon I hope.

IM SELLING FMB TUBULARS> order now!
email tireorder@yahoo.com

and check out www.tireorder.blogspot.com

29.3.08

Good week so far. Trying to work out some wheels for this upcoming cross season. We will see how things pan out with that. Im also working on doing a purchase for some more cyclocross tubulars. Check back for some updates.

summary of today:
And...

It was a marathon...

done.

26.3.08

I think I started my addiction to tubular tires the other day. Ive reconsidered my component choices over the past two years and decided that for the money ultegra and 105 are blangin. However there is one condition to this. You must have tubulars and a collection of carbon wheels. Im working on another set of carbon wheels. Currently I've asked a few manufactures who make wheelset that come in 50mm and 85mm if I can purchase rim only. My plan would be to run the 85mm wheels on the road during road season and have two sets of 50mm for cyclocross. If the price is right this should work. Who here has seen 105 hubs on carbon rims?

Up next is the tubular collection. I just got in a 32c dugast that is in neen of a repair, so I will do that. I also just purchased a set of dugasts in 30c. I have my vittorias. And if the carbon wheels work out I will buy a set of vittoria pave 24c for racing on the road. blang blang blanging.

I'm recovering well from sugery the other day, I went down and played a little basketball.

Car shopping this past week went alright it is kinda down between the Subaru WRX and a Volvo s40 leaning more toward the Volvo becuase of praticality. so here is is...

it has some potential.

Done

23.3.08

....back! surgery went well, my incision is healing up well and I have my one week checkup tomorrow. Lisa came over for two days after my surgery, she brought ballons and candy it was very nice to see her. I've been hanging out on the couch most of the week working with sales videos for work this summer.
here are some updates to my cross bike:

New BBB pad holders that carry road pads. change your pads with out having to adjust the posts on your brakes!
Cutout saddle for my gooch... I've got three more of them in the mail.

done!

16.3.08

A couple new updates!

Went for my first ride in almost 6 months the other day. It was fun, got out for a spin of about an hour or so, all the gooch could take right now. It was about 50 degrees or so. I rode the cross bike.

Up next, my car is on its way out right now and my parents and I are looking for a ride for school and summer. Im thinking 04' Subaru Impreza WRX. we will see. That is all.

Done.

3.3.08

Cartoon from this weekend. Lisa and I made it on the train.
I did 30 minutes on the trainer today. I feel pretty good and im up from 20 minutes I was doing last week. gooch strength.

Done.

Dahh its 2:26AM and I am up becuase I have slept so much today. I woke up at 10:30 then got on a train with McGoots from boston at 12. Slept for prolly 2 more hours. I worked on My schedule for this cross season and as it works out there may be a few road trips. vermont and long island included. IF my gooch agrees this time around I will also e flying the colors at the NJ usgp race in the B men field. Tomorrow I am gonna ride the trainer some and do some resistance training at the gym after I took the whole weekend off in boston. Lisa and I made a funny comic on her compute on the trainride back from the pictures taken on the trip so watch out for that here or there hopefully tomorrow.

Anybody have any good recommendations for 28 spoke hubs? Im lacing my campy montreal rims up so I can have file treads incase we actually get some snow this coming season.

it's 2:32
done.

1.3.08

I really haven't posted here in a while but I think im going to start again. As lame as it sounds this thing helps you train. It gives you routine that you can follow and track/log your training. Right now im back on the bike after several crazy things happened since september. First off I was not able to bring a bike to college. While I was home for thanksgiving I jacked up my urethra/gooch area on a cyclocross ride with nig nug. A week went by and peeing felt funny. Then I had urgency and frequency and I was way out of wack. Went to the doctors and he didnt know what was going on. I couldnt pee for like 3 weeks it was crazy. Found out that I had crushed my urethra with the saddle and after a proceedure and some antibiotics for the UTI I was back to normal.

The scare came when my doctor in Albany said no more bikes...AT ALL. Then I went for a second and third opinion and by 2/3 vote im riding again. In the meantime I met lisa, my girlfriend of the last 5 months. Its been a great time since school started with friends and relationships and for once...grades.

Ive been riding the trainer and doing some resistance training. Im writing all of my own training programs with the guidance of the programs i used to follow an online articles. I find I have so much more fun and even feel stronger on the bike when i work how I feel and how I want to train.

I sold my chorus grouppo that I was using on the road and I think im going to be buying 2 new centaur grouppos for matching cannondale cross bikes. I will do most of my training on those bikes and by the time next cross season comes hopefully ill have matching bikes. One single ring and one double. The CAAD 9 I have is getting buld up with the grouppo thats on my cross bike now and that frame will be sold. Cannondale Optimo Cross frame anyone???? 56cm!

moral of the story I will be posting more so check out my blog more often...

ohh check out lisas new blog and photography website too!

yea so ride today.

or lack there of ride. I showed up at the shop typical tuesday time. Aidan was coming on the ride so we waited on valley road for him. He caught up to us and we chased for a bit. We got back together with the group at the bottom of Allen road and the ride continued like normal. I made it almost to 202 when I flatted. Aidan and chris stopped then we decided we were going to ride the ricola course for them. got on 202 and completely messed that up. Then I flatted again in bedminster. with no more co2 I found a seat at the bedminster exxon with Gulzar the proprietor. I wish I had my camera. He kept asking me if I wanted his electrical tape then packing tape and duct tape. Then Gulzar the exxon worker and I fed the birds. that was nice.

If you ever have a chance to nearly kill yourself with a co2 cartridge, then double flat, then spend and hour plus with a gas station attendant who doesnt speak english, Do it.

Photo cred on this goes to colin. and LOU!

Scott I promise a race report soon.

done.

28.5.07

Somerville was today. I raced juniors and it was pretty fast. word on the street is that it was like 28mph. Shane Kline won for ehh the third year in a row. redic.
Colin was shredding the camera. Here he is pictured with a professional photog.
Alejandro acton maybe. Ehhh i dont know my colavita people. that was a guess.
sweet navigators backup bikes. mmm yes and bora pit wheels all around.

sort of a lame update.

9.5.07

Went for a cross ride today to test out the new shifter.
im gonna say its semi spot on.
but it looks good and is mega comfy.
i have to do some adjustments its kinda slow shifting to smaller cogs.

I went down on a sandy section of the trail, in the middle of the powerlines and quickly got up to see if anyone had seen me go down. haha.

then i went for a run

weak blog

anybody wanna ride cross?

pleez

kthankxbye

7.5.07

im kinda proud of myself. ive been pullin down mega blog results. like 30 to 40 views a day and have almost hit 2000 views in the past few months.

did a little hustlin at the shop today and scored this sweet 105 10s shifter for some elbow grease.
I may have 9 speed der. and cassette but this is still flowing and shifting well with one dead click.
4 grams heavier and like 10 to 15x more comfortable. Shimanos 10s stuff has kinda warmed up to me, but Id prefer to ride their huge levers off road and stick with the campy crisp on the road. i dont think its even possible to slip off one of these huge hoods.

ill give it an official test wed.

tomorrow 3hrs in the saddle and the second run of the new tuesday loop

killer loooper

6.5.07

Raced this weekend. Junior race this morning. Didnt race very well, one of those days. not gonna really attempt excuses but I messed with my program this week and it hurt. So after no legs I raced the cat 4s. dicy race with about 10 flats or so, yet no crashes, most of which centered around the right hand shoulder. TomTom got us there in good time.

This guy is on an effin mission. he rides for the fitness mission team.
Now, 60mph is not the impressive part of this photog, the impressive part is the 5000rpms mixed with what I diagnose is a effed up exaust in chris' audi. anyway i needed a dashboard shot somewhere on my blog. ishes.
this porshce thought it was cool to pass us on the shoulder. so i made a roadside appointment to catch a photog of his sweet ground effects!

When we got back to my house ma and pa had subs for us and this stellar guacamole. festive for yesterdays' cinco de mayo
The landscape for the rest of the day, wish me luck.
rangers gave it a good run.

Went to camp this past weekend. so here it comes. post-ripped on andy this weekend quite a bit. chris busted down the door 2 times once while andy was dropping two the other while andy was showering.
These kids are strong. Chris is 17 and scored a 3rd at cherry blossom and andy is 16 and racked in a win there. Andy also takes the verbal beating like a champ. Plus he likes reallly nice girls. like kelly.

heres the tally for most of saturday's ride. not a ton of miles but the last 25 had 10 sprints. gah.the bikes in front of the room.

I think they will be on ebay soon. 25 bucks with grip and graphics thats kickin
Zane is reppin too, lemme see what his address is... www.zaned91.blogspot.com
So far I have like 7 races in this year. Considering last year I started my season in June thats seven more races than last year.
Today was Central Park. I have never been a fan of the course becuase Ive been dropped there several times. guh guh. Things didnt go down like that though. Heres the motion picture--
First lap went off fast, I sat like 3rd wheel and let my legs get warmed up. The crap in my legs spun out and I felt pretty good. Second lap a move went off and Joe Mcwilliams went with it. that group took some time on the field, Marino and Myself sat on front with the guys from Merrill Lynch worked out nicely. Third lap rolled around(get it) and Joe's group stopped doing work, he was pissed and they got brought back. Then another group went, 4 guys, Merrill Lynch had a guy so they put the whole team upfront. Then I attacked and started to chase with this other guy to get one of us in the break, didnt work, we were reeled in. Finally the group of 4 guys stayed away, merrill lynch guy was there, they sat on the front and the race ended fighting for 6th. guh guh.
Sandy hook went down on Saturday and I didn't do so hot. Chris, I will allow you to think of some excuses for me.
yea so I procrastinated this post hoping for pics from the race this moring but, no dice.
tomorrow it is
done.

25.3.07

IM CHRIS HANSEN????

Today I raced prospect park. I raced the 3/4 field and there were so many attacks. Mariellos Pizza would put off like 3 or 4 attacks a lap. Each time up the hill it would just be guy off the front after guy. That was the first three laps or so, my legs felt good, not great but good enough to race on. Then like 4 laps through or so I decided to float back and check out the scene back there. Dan from Princeton Review was back there and I figured he would be a freaking incredible wheel if it came down to a field sprint. Chilled off the back with him waiting for the field sprint, did some chatting and talked some tactics. Those laps went fast and it seemed like my legs didnt even feel them. Checked my Heart rate monitor and I was chillin at like 150-160 Bpm right on the back of the field. I was really happy with that actually considering ive been sick lately. I can feel my legs are getting adjusted to having like 20 more lbs on my frame so when i get leg speed back my heart will be super happy.

The new bike felt freaking incredible as well. I rode training wheels but it was still super stiff and responsive. The CAAD 9 is much different from the spec. I feel like when im out of the saddle the wheels are locked to the ground. The spec. on the other hand would be all freaking over the place, hopping from little bump tot little bump. The new bike feels really reponsive uphill to. Im not gonna lie Im mega pumped.

Todays view...

And another shot.

So good at telling a race story I for got the end, Dan from princeton review made a move in the field sprint that I couldnt match so I get a big FIF

recovery ride and run tomorrow?? who is down?

Done.

22.3.07

I got another flat today. Sweet. I dont flat for like 2 years on the road, then I flat like about 6 times in the last month. Again, sweet. Got in about an Hour and 45 min on the cross bike then finished up with a 20 minute run. Did some sprint intervals on the bike and called it a day.
Tomorrow I will finish up the new bike, iron out some fit details and cable stretch to get ready to race on sunday. Pictures when I solve the whole memory card not working becuase of a magnetic experience the other day thing.

21.3.07

Scott El and Jim are all scouting paris-roubaix this week with Magnus Backstedt. Insane.
Yesterday, I suited up the cross bike with some road tires and got out for a ride on the road, instead of just riding cross as I have been lately. The Road Bike is almost done but I just need to find time to cut the steerer between riding and schoolwork.
I think my camera may have exploded, well not my camera. The camera takes pictures and works and such but it wont upload any pictures to my computer, bummer. When I figure it out i think there are some people who are looking for pictures of the Caad 9 and I will post pictures.

Otherwise keep reppin master P and the thug life

Done.

12.3.07

Im not going to comment on this near month long stretch ive gone without and update, but the pictures are getting backed up on my camera so here it goes.

Went for a ride today with scott http://scotteffinjackson.blogspot.com hes back from banner elk till tomorrow night when he goes to copenhagen, thats right copenhagen, Denmark. He will be in belgium with el and jim for the next few months riding for the cycling center.

In preparation for his departure and adaptation to european culture he has adopted this...

Not a typical american mullet, but a mullet typical of the european peloton. when asked about how you describe this to the barber scott said, (not a direct quote by any means) "I just hold up a picture of filippo pozzato" ha.

So the ride... we did a mendham lake road ride ish thing. scott blew up my legs on all the climbs twas interesting.

Scott and I recieved a stern public address from officer curtis on layfayette for riding two by two and impedeing the flow of traffic(him)

we are praying for race legs sometime soon.

I flatted

i have terrible posture.

mmmk so post.
lots of riding as of late, well not just riding but going to the gym as well. Some time on the stationary bike and lifting and such. It seems to be working pretty well for me.
I got out for like 2 hours after school yesterday and managed to flat twice which was kind of a bummer, this makes 4 flats on the road and 3 flats on the cross bike for 2007. In 2006 I had a much different year 3 flats total, one shitting around riding in the glass covered rain gutter and two where I walked out to bike in the morning and my back tire was flat. Which brings me to my next point, i have never flatted a front tire. Moral of the story, free continental gatorskins are the best tires around. Enough flat talk.
12 or so hours on the bike since monday which I'm pretty pumped on, looking to to about an hour and a half on the trainer today, then get out on the road tomorrow. If so I will post some pics.
done.

13.1.07

will post later about getting romped on at the cross race today.
after tonight.

10.1.07

This is basically what im listening to right now. If you dont have both, or even either of them, check them out on iTunes.

nothing new
done.

9.1.07

This is pretty much what I eat now. In fact im actually eating it right now, as I type. the yogurt tastes good and has calcium. I really dont drink milk because I like water so much, so this works well for calcium. The granola is a great substitute for chocolate chips and even has protein. Finally the fish oil pills are good for everything and apparently speed up you metabolism, excellent when taken with daily multivitamins. Enough boring nutrition talk. Here comes the excitement.

Out on a ride today, bout an hour in and coming out of the swamp when a strange creaky poppy sound starts coming from my BB. So I just figure that it the loose ball bearing 80s Bottom Bracket and do what any other sensible rider would do... turned up my iPod. I got away without fixing it for another 10 minutes. Then I began to accelerate away from a stop sign when the creaky poppy noise gets really lound then stops. At the same time my rear wheel stopped moving because genious like to ride fixed gear. Chainring bolts popped out even tough they were loctited in place and tiiiiiiight, and the only 42T chainring I had folded after splitting right down the center. toast.
Then I called for a ride/spent some time standing in front of shop-rite for a bit.
More carnage pics.

I have a new phone too. Same number.
Done.

7.1.07

Forgot how fun riding the road is. Ive gotten all mixed up riding the cross bike, running and going to the gym that I completely forgot how fun the road can be. Did about an hour and a half, rode an abbreviated swamp loop. I had my first ride on the road with the hrm to so i followed that alittle, but I'm really not to big a fan of computers. I think I might like training with the hrm though it tells you avg hr, max hr, calories, %fat all good stuff. Looking forward to doing this base thing. ha.

The Angles.

My favorite road of the swamp loop.
In other news I watched some weird shite on TLC, the show is called extreme pregnancies. Pretty messed up but completely recommended. Once that got to my head I watched bull riding on NBC and this guy had his shin compound fractured. and the bone was like sticking out. the bull stepped right on the back of his leg as he was crawling on the groud. it was redic.

Twas wintercross #2

I got fourth place. The race was super fun the course was muddy, but not too muddy. Nice mix of sandy gravel, pavement, slick grass and deep mud. Race started out with me taking third in the wholeshot, that gave me nice position going into the staight that had the deep mud. there was a little crash in the slick turn after the mud section. The pavement after that I took some ground and then sat in second. The guy I was with got a little break, but I didnt chase it, I figured it was much to early. Not one person from my group of three decided to chase. I spent the next lap sitting in and wheezing (I think im getting sick...) Then some dude came up from the back on lap two and toasted everyone, caught up to the guy who prolly had 20 seconds on us. The setup was two up and then a group of four with the rest of the field a safe distance behind. last lap comes around and one of the guys breaks away in the deep grass. I cant catch him, I decide to sit with the group of 3 remaining and win the sprint with my group for 4th place by about 10m. Some family showed up, very nice of them.

Overall good time. Stopped at some deli on the way home and scored a itailian sub.

My heart rate monitor came in yesterday its pretty sweet. but I think im getting sick because it was pegged between 167-187 the whole race... da da da.

orange juice and vitamins

fixed gear ride tomorrow becuase my legs are feeling that good, and I havent even started base training that everyone speaks of.

pictures....

OHH! and scott, I used your wheel, promise ill pay you sooon hahahah

no but for srs.

cheer up, you get to log fixed gear miles tomorrow!

thats it till tomorrow of the next day

I cleaned my bicycle today, at the bicycle shop.

My bike was really muddy today so i took it out to the shop and cleaned it, which worked out well becuase I had to drop off college forms with my employer. felt the need to use my camera whilst I was there, here is the result one shiny and clean bicycle.

Single ring 39-14 setup used to crush men 20 years my senior

waiting on carbon spacers.

In other news my computer monitor exploded yesterday and would only display one color...black.

I went over the the library to get some work done since my computer was out of service and brought my laptop, only to realize they have free wireless! and its quiet. So im going to start blogging from there because I can actually get schoolwork dont there too.

Doing a project on NORML the nation organization for refromation of marijuana laws which is kind of interesting. decriminalization might be the way, but then the government would get into it making more mess for no good reason.

back to college essays and gov. homework.

Heres the report of the first wintercross race from Dan Strika

Race Report from Winter Cross I
by Dan Strika

The first day of 2007 and me and seven other guys (everyone looked sober) lined up for the B/C race at Skylands Park in Augusta.
The course was substantially different that the last time that we raced there. This time there were twists and turns in the gravel parking lot, up and down on the K2 hill, into the stadium on the gravel, one set of stairs, through a tunnel into the stadium (look out for the tractor). The hill was muddy and there were plenty of large puddles all over the course. All things considered it was a pretty fast course.Bob Carey wished us a happy new year and then said "Start!" and off we went. I got the bike moving and slammed it into the big ring . A young guy wearing a Navigators outfit took off with a powerful sprint and gapped the rest of us. I sprinted as fast as I could and caught up to him on one off the grassy sections. As I was riding behind him mud was spraying from his rear wheel into my face. There was a substantial gap that opened up between the two of us and the rest of the field. As the lap progressed we worked together and the gap got bigger and bigger. We agreed to work together and put the rest of the guys as far back as possible. By the end of the third lap of a five lap race we had over a minute gap on the rest of the field. The young guy had a real strong sprint and he stayed with me on the three running sections. Over the next lap we tested each other but I couldn't find a way to drop him and he couldn't get rid of me either. I got the impression that he was biding his time and wanted to wait for the sprint to knock me off. On the last lap I went to the front and got a bit of a gap on him on the asphalt but as soon as the technical sections came up he closed the gap. I didn't want to sprint it out with him as he demonstrated a few times that he could go real hard and fast in a straight line. We got to the K2 hill and I tried to outrun him but he closed it down again. I said to myself "Come on I can win this (never won a race before)" With about 400 meters to go we came into the tunnel in the stadium and then we exited the stadium. Only about 150 meters to go. I was in the lead and he was about 20 feet behind me. I slammed it into the big ring, let out a "Arghhhhhh" and started to sprint as hard as I could. The kid had rocket fuel in his legs and with about 60 meters to go he caught me and passed me with authority. With about 20 to go I closed down the gap but he crossed the line first by about a bike length. Later on in the parking lot as we exchanged greetings and congratulations I got a good look at him. I think he's pushing 18 years old... I just turned 46! Youth triumphed over experience. Good race, it was interesting being at the front of the field (first time for me). A little disappointed that I couldn't finish the guy off on the last lap but that's bike racing. I'll be back again next week.
